The opening ceremony of the multi-purpose port (first phase) of Djibouti in Djibouti, Africa was held on the 24th in Djibouti, capital of Djibouti. The Doha Ray Multipurpose Port (Phase 1) project was built by China Construction and is the largest port project undertaken by a Chinese-owned construction company to date in the North-East Africa region. The project was officially started in August 2014. The port has a designed annual cargo handling capacity of 7.08 million tons and a container handling capacity of 200,000 TEU.

 

Since the start of the project, the builders from China have faced difficulties in both the human and the land, the extreme environment of high temperatures, and the extreme lack of living resources and production resources all relying on imports. With the Chinese responsibilities and Chinese standards, the constructors have carefully organized the construction construction. The main terminal and all the house building and road yards in the contract were completed at an astonishing speed, laying a solid foundation for the commissioning and formal opening of the port area.

 

Djibouti is located in the Horn of Africa and is an important connecting point of the Asian-African market and an important node of the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road”.
